'Solo leveling', oh man where does one start with this. It was one of the ones that started my on manga/manhua/manhwa journey as I am reading about twenty-five of them. I would happily take the time to reply to some questions if you think you have any interest in this!
'Solo leveling' was one of the first manhwa I began to read maybe a year ago at this point. This manhua really took flight during the Covid pandemic and kept flying from there! I was one of the ones sucked into reading this story from a picture I saw on Pintrest of one of the scenes.
From some of the reviews I personally read about the manhwa, it is a little different from the novel. I have not read the novel myself, but I was told it was better than the manhwa... duhhh.
By the way, manhwa is a type of manga, and if you don't know manga, it is a Japanese style comic book of sorts. But they also call anime manga over there... it can be confusing. Manhwa is the Korean version. Long story short, I somehow found myself reading these manhwas mainly on an app called Tapas. You need something they called ink, a type of coin I suppose but you can complete challenges for it instead of paying which saves you some money.
BUT for the entire point of this post, I wish to brag about the manhwa called 'Solo leveling'. They came out with physical copies on Amazon, but if I find where they sell outside of Amazon, I'll add the link for it.
So, 'Solo leveling', starts off with literally the weakest of all hunters. Hunters are humans that gained abilities when things called dungeons started appearing on Earth. Dungeons are essentially portals that, if not taken care of, release monsters on Earth and they destroy regular humans like they are rag dolls.
These hunters were gifted extra strength, durability and all-around stronger humans. As it is put, even the weakest of hunters is stronger than the strongest human. Lucky enough for us, we are told of the weakest hunter to start off with, and his name is Jinwoo Sung, known for being the weakest of all hunters.
With his mother in the hospital and sister going through high school, he has no choice but to keep working as a hunter. Even the least dangerous of all dungeons, he will come out with cuts and bruises despite everyone else not even breaking a sweat.
One day he gets an opportunity of a lifetime, and he takes it. No longer will he ever be called the weakest of all hunters, but it isn't something he just suddenly acquires. He has to grow stronger through work, danger, more dungeons and endless tasks brought before him.
As I said, MC (Main Character) starts off weakest in the world. He got his chance; he took it at the cost of a LOT of pain, but he eventually grew stronger with each choice he made.
The artistry is amazing, I love a lot of the action scenes and the humorous moments. Specifically, when they draw a very blank face for the times it requires it. The artist DUBU(Redice Studio), really goes all out for the art in this book. This book is one of my top three of all manhwas, first being 'Beginning After the End', which I wrote another post about earlier on the same blog, the incredible art style in both of them is enough to capture your attention most especially when they are transported to new worlds that require a lot of detail.
Now, like I said, I have not read the novel but that is on my TBR list! Along with 'Beginning After the End' novel.
