Get More From Your Vampires

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

Half-bloods, mongrels, mud-bloods, hybrids ands halflings. All meaning the mixture of two different things, or as we all well know, mud-bloods are specific to the Potter-verse. Half-bloods are majority known from the PJO (Percy Jackson of the Olympians) series. But, has anyone ever read 'The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod'? The Pravus, first introduced in the first book of the chronicles, 'Eighth Grade Bites' is the child of a vampire and a human, similar to the last movie in the Twilight series.

Vladimir Tod the main protagonist, is the offspring of a vampire father and a human mother. But to intrigue the story, his parents mysteriously died in a freak fire accident, leaving him in the care of his mother's best friend who had been entrusted with the knowledge of Vladimir's father's secret, vampirism.

Through the book you learn the few important things that will follow through the rest of the series. so you do have to pay close attention at a few points. Some of the twists and turns are not very suspenseful as they are too easily guessed but still captivating enough.

Throughout most of the book, Vlad is trying to find out where his missing teacher is, where this new substitutes came from and what he knows. By the end of the book we find that the disappearance of his teacher was of very little substance for the plot, but the substitute teacher does. It really does take a while to understand where the whole story is going since Heather Brewer didn't focus too much on the plot growth for a while.

As the first book of the chronicles is extremely short, the author, Heather Brewer, made up for this by creating the five book series on the growth of Vladimir, 'Ninth Grade Slays', 'Tenth Grade Bleeds', 'Eleventh Grade Burns', 'Twelve Grade Kills'.

An incredible cosplay here as well, by a lukecoyle on the fanpop website. This is someone the correct age portraying Vladimir with his purple eyes that only happen a few times in the first book. It really was TOO good of a cosplay to not share with you guys.

BUT! Back to the point, personally I think that the book was good. Others might say it was a little slow, maybe a lot of information in a short book. But once you really get through it, you find yourself hooked and ready for the next few books as well.

Recently I reread the first book, so I do have a complete refresher on the details of the book. Currently I just got passed chapter one of the second book 'Ninth Grade Slays'. In the upcoming week, I plan on reading the second book and maybe part of the third. So if you guys are interested, I can give another review on the next book in the chronicles!
